Gooding School District COVID 19 update as of March 15, 2019 at 5:30 PM

We understand these are scary and uncertain times for us all.  We appreciate your patience as we have spent the day in meetings with Governor Little, CDC, Region 4 superintendents and many more about the current climate around COVID 19 in Idaho.  As many of you are aware at this time there are 5 cases in the state: 2 in Ada county, 2 in Blaine county, and 1 in Teton county.  Governor Little has left the decision for school closures up to the districts to make at the local level, to best meet the differing needs of Idaho communities.

It has been with careful thought and consideration that Gooding School District has determined it will be best to remain in school March 16th and 17th.  School will not be in session on March 18th and 19th.  All parent teacher conferences will be held over the phone.  This decision was not made lightly, and was with recommendations from Governor Little and the CDC.

We do understand some families have varying situations in which there may be family members that are at higher risk, and will choose to keep children home from school.  Please know that if you keep your child home they will be marked absent, we will follow up to confirm their absence, and ensure their safety.  Absences during this time period will not affect your child’s attendance reports or credit.

In addition, we urge you to keep your child home if they show symptoms such as fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath.  Children should be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication before returning to school.  You also need to keep your child home if they have been exposed to anyone who is showing the same symptoms.

This was a very hard decision, but as we review the recommendation from CDC we believe this is in the best interest of our community.  In addition to providing students with an education, the district needs to take into account the multiple needs or of our students that are provided by our schools.

The custodial staff has been going the extra-mile to make sure our building has been deep cleaned and disinfected well, and will continue to do so.  The custodial staff will make sure extra supplies are readily available to staff for use as needed.

Events are changing rapidly and we will continue to meet, review current happenings and trends, and adjust plans as needed.  Information will be provided as quickly as we are able and when any changes or updates to this plan are made.

Mission Statement

Gooding Schools' mission, in partnership with the community, is to provide education opportunities for students to develop their full potential as life-long learners and contributing citizens

Superintendent's Message

Welcome to Gooding Joint. School District. What makes this district great? The students, employees, parents and community members. The district has many extra-curricular activites for students and we want to see them involved. Several dual credit opportunities exist for students and we are adding more each year. In fact, more students have enrolled in, and earned credit in, dual credit courses than ever before. We continually strive to hire the best staff possible and they are a pleasure to work with.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our schools and programs. As a parent and/or community member, please help us make this district even better. Take time and get to know the teachers and staff; become involved in the schools and district. With everyone working together we can accomplish even more!
